Star Trek: TOS, S1E3 - Where No Man Has Gone Before

A ship named the Valiant self-destructed two hundred years ago, there's ESP involved, and Kirk has a crush on a new blonde doctor. (Uh oh, Rand, you might be in trouble.) Dr. Elizabeth, the beautiful blonde who is allowed to wear pants on duty, specializes in the study of risk analysis for Starfleet ships and something about ESP. Space exploration is one thing but the intergalactic X-Files makes for an interesting subplot. When the ship hits a purple energy storm, Dr. Elizabeth and Kirk's studly friend Gary get hit by the force of it. They both tested high with, you guessed it, ESP so dilemma ensures. Gary's eyes go from smoldering dreaminess to high-end silver contacts. He can read half the ship's library in a day and still doesn't have the ability to close his mouth. He gets handsy with Dr. Elizabeth after initially insulting her and for some reason she's into it. She instantly gets some form of Stockholm syndrome and defends a man she's known for less than a day to the rest of the crew....she's got some issues.

Spock announces at a staff leadership meeting that Gary is no longer "Gary" but is instead an exponentially growing mutant superhuman who will grow to hate everyone for their average human stupidity. He gives Kirk two suggestions: dump god-like Gary on a mining planet while they get supplies to fix the ship or kill him. Thankfully, Dr. Elizabeth is back fawning over her new superpowered boyfriend so couldn't go meltdown mode at any discussion beyond siphoning powers to everyone. She's a masterclass in eugenics except with psychic powers and a heavy dose of eyeliner. Someone keep this doctor away from a classroom or any impressional society! I'm already thinking that she should also be dumped on the automated mining colony so she can ramble endlessly to the automatons.

Gary goes full Sith Lord on his friends and they have to beat him up just to get to the sedation level. After drugging him up, they land on Delta Vega where Kirk proudly states, "there's nobody but us chickens" there. His casual demeanor towards a former bestie being marooned is alarming. The words "mutant" and "espers" are now used commonly to refer to Gary and his growing powers. Dr. Elizabeth watches him down the others with a morbid lust only to reveal that her eyes went contact-silver too...she's a mutant goddess! The two run off to create their own Garden of Eden and Kirk heads towards them with a phaser to mess it all up. They may have god-like superpowers but he has a sniper rifle and a score to settle. Things get real Old Testament when the dangerous duo view humans as mindless insects worth manipulating for their own amusement.

Gary tries to murder his former bestie with the reasoning, "morals are for men, not gods" but his nefarious plan backfires. Dr. Elizabeth grows a spine and some semblance of professionalism by zapping her deity boyfriend into submission. Kirk and Gary turn Cain and Abel when they fight over a dug out grave with rocks and all. In a moment where a phaser rifle overcomes the growing powers of a god, Gary gets defeated and buried. Dr. Elizabeth apparently dies from using her powers once - real impressive - and Kirk peaces out before the day gets worse. The former godly duo get a clean service record and some X-Files coverup work so the higher ups won't ask any questions. On a lighter note, this is the first episode with Scotty and by these events alone I can tell why he makes a hobby of drinking strong liquor.
